In my attempt to grasp at all things summer and consume copious amount of fresh produce, I forgot for a minute that mangos and turmeric are not particularly local to Chicago. I must have gone through gallons of this Mango Turmeric Smoothie in the past couple of weeks without admitting to myself that Mexico and Brazil are not really cozying up for fall picking the last standing mangos from their orchards.
Whatever the season, this smoothie is absolutely wonderful! Reminiscent of mango lassie, it incorporates homemade probiotic kefir with vitamin C rich mango and orange, and immunity boosting turmeric. A bit of avocado and chia add some healthy fat and creamy texture. When I’m extra hungry, I like to mix it with a bit of homemade granola.
The best part about this smoothie is how much all three of my kids love it. It’s so strikingly pretty in color and presentation that they ask for it for dessert. And of course, I’m always happy to deliver!
If you’d like to include more turmeric in your rotation, try this Turmeric Golden Milk, my favorite remedy when I need a powerful inflammation-fighting boost.

HOW TO MAKE PROBIOTIC MANGO TURMERIC SMOOTHIE BOWL
Ingredients
Flesh of 1 fresh mango; or 1 cup frozen mango
1 cup kefir (how to make kefir) or coconut milk for vegan version (how to make coconut milk)
1/2 orange, skin removed
1/4 avocado
1/4 inch sliver fresh turmeric root (work up to 1 inch once you get used to the taste)
1 teaspoon chia seeds
4-5 ice cubes
Strawberries and mango pieces for topping
Instructions
Process all ingredients in a high-powered blender. If you don’t have a high-powered blender, skip the chia seeds.
Top with strawberries and mango.
Notes
I really recommend fresh ripe mango because frozen mangos sometimes taste chalky (picked before their prime).
